CANES Systems Engineering Work Awarded to Cabrillo

6 January 2014

(Philadelphia, PA) – Cabrillo Technologies announced today it was awarded a task order in support of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) providing Systems Engineering expertise to the Navy’s Tactical Networks Program Office (PMW 160) in support of PMW 160’s Shipbuilding and Conversion, Navy and Other Customer Funded (SCN/OCF) program.

“The key to Cabrillo’s success is our blended expertise approach,” stated Lori Ventimiglia, the president of Cabrillo Technologies. “Our staff complements military backgrounds with commercial expertise in Cloud Computing; we help SPAWAR identify which aspects of commercial best practices, geared toward driving profit, actually make sense in a DoD model.”

Team Cabrillo will provide engineering support in designing and developing unique Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) baselines in support of small form factor, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and both the OHIO Replacement and VIRGINIA Class submarine platforms. Cabrillo will also define the future requirements for the CANES baselines and support emerging Navy programs such as the Unmanned Carrier Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS) system.

The team has also been engaged by PMW 160 to develop a Platform Network Architecture (PNA) for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. This effort follows a study led by the Cabrillo Leadership identifying a cost savings of over $35 Million by migrating the LCS platform network to CANES. These efforts to define the future baselines for CANES are set to increase the cost savings associated with network infrastructure consolidation and help the Navy comply with Chief of Naval Operation directives to reduce data centers by 25% and increase server virtualization by 50%. Cabrillo Technologies was chosen specifically because of its expertise in applying commercial best practices to Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition and Navy shipbuilding programs. Cabrillo will apply this expertise to help PMW 160 define the future for CANES based on successes in commercial IT spending and business models.
